Prevailing Wage

A subcommittee comprised of House Labor Chair Rick Olson (D-Des Moines), Labor Committee Ranking Member Lance Horbach (R-Tama) and Vice Chair Nate Willems (D-Mount Vernon) met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss HSB 149. HSB149 would increase costs of public construction in the state of Iowa anywhere from 10-20% and takes away competitive bidding. The result is even higher property taxes for Iowans. Employee Doctor-Shopping Bill Advances

On Monday, the Senate Labor Committee heard from three ABI members about why passage of SSB 1119 would not be in the best interest of employees or employers in addressing work place injuries. ABI Board Member Myron Linn, Pella Corp.; Steve Spors, John Deere Des Moines Works; and Rita Riskedahl R.N., Emerson, all gave compelling testimony. Continue reading>>>

1.  If you used the peel off label, did you enter your social security number in the space provided enter any corrections?  If you do not have a label, or there are too many corrections, did you clearly print your name, social security number, and address, including zip code directly on your return?

 

2.  Did you enter the names and social security numbers for yourself, your spouse, your dependents, and qualifying children for earned income credit or child tax credit, exactly as they appear on the social security cards? If there have been any name changes be sure to go to www.ssa.gov or call at 1-800-772-1213.

Just when we need it the least, the legislature is proposing one more bad-for-business bill that will add even more cost to the already astronomical burden of business owners in Iowa.  The new "doctor shopping" bill SSB 1119 has been estimated to add another $93 million (National Council for Compensation Insurance) per year in insurance premiums if enacted.
 
To see the net effects of the proposed "doctor shopping" legislation, one needs only look east.  It has been said that Iowa employers spend an average of $225 per year, per employee for work-comp insurance. continue reading>>>

YP IOWA NEWThe Young Professionals of Iowa (YPIowa) will be hosting YP Day at the Capitol on Monday, February 23, 2009.  Young professionals from businesses and communities across Iowa will gather in Des Moines to connect with their legislators and hear about important issues facing our state.  Presentations will be made by the Generation Iowa Commission, Iowa League of Cities, Rebuild Iowa Office and ABI throughout the day.  A reception will be hosted by RDG Planning and Design at 4:00pm at their downtown Des Moines location.
