Subcommittee
Held on Veterans' Day
Off
The
Iowa Senate held a subcommittee Wednesday on HF
2197 requiring employers to give all
Veterans either a paid or unpaid holiday on
Veterans' Day. The
senators on the subcommittee had some concerns
about the affects the legislation would have on
manufacturing companies and requested ABI to
draft language to make the bill more amenable to
employers.
Heavy
Debate and Budget
Targets
Leaders
in the Iowa House and Senate are still aiming
for a March 31st adjournment
date.
In order to achieve the date, both
chambers must move bills off the calendar. The
House and Senate have been debating several
pieces of legislation each day, most of which
have been non-controversial. In
addition to the debate, legislators are
receiving budget targets and getting ready to
prepare a budget. The
Revenue Estimating Conference will meet on March
11th and a final budget will be
available after the REC estimates are
given. |
Defined
Benefit Pension Plan Termination
Overview
Quantitative
due diligence is required to assess funded
status on a termination basis. Several
actuarial, legal, and governmental filings are
necessary. For underfunded plans, capital can be

Outlined below are some of the more important
aspects to be addressed in a plan
termination.
Freeze Benefit
Accruals
This limits additional liability
which may result if the termination process does
not go as planned.
Finalize Accrued Benefit
Calculations
This entails obtaining detailed
demographic data, current document, etc.
Locate all Plan
Participants
Contact
information for each plan participant is needed.
A diligent search must be made to locate
them. Continue

to change.
2. Creating a Cohesive
Wellness Team The second benchmark of a
results-oriented wellness program is the
creation and integration of a well-functioning
team.
