Culver
Acknowledges Support for Anti-Business Bills
After
announcing last Friday that he supported the
prevailing wage bill, Governor Chet Culver on
Tuesday said he is "absolutely" supportive of
three other labor-backed bills. They involve
choice of doctor, fair share and expanding the
scope of collective bargaining, even though he
vetoed such a bill last year. "I think it's time
that we move forward on some bills that will
help hard-working Iowans," he said in an
interview with press this
week.

(formerly HSB 149), the controversial union wage
fixing bill, was finally debated in the House

able to secure the 51st vote.

Ten Reasons For an Insurance
Review

1)
Makes financial sense in today's every changing
world to have a comprehensive insurance review
every 2-3 years because it is more critical than
ever to stay on top of what is happening in the
insurance industry
2) May
provide opportunity for understanding of current
pricing and potential
adjustments;
3) Provides
an objective analysis of current policies that
is not biased towards certain carriers;

A
Word to Our Legislature
I
think that rather than focusing on all of these
traditional Union tenets (wages, benefits,
posturing like ISU), we should instead be
figuring out ways to survive these times and
working together on business recovery and
education. Spending 67 hours to hold open
a vote is not a demonstration of this spirit and
quite frankly is embarrassing for this
State. We have the chance to foster change
in our back yards and be leaders in
demonstrating constructive
partnerships. On February 5 of this
year an article in the Des Moines Register
explained that ISU's President Geoffroy was
being challenged by union leaders from the
American Federation of State, County and
Municipal Employees over his right to send an
email out to the employees to explain the budget
challenges they faced. Continue
