HF 530 was introduced in the House on Wednesday.  The legislation threatens employees' quality of care received as a result of workplace injuries.  This legislation along with SF 155 would turn Iowa's workers' compensation system upside down. Currently, Iowa offers the third highest benefit structures for employees and consistently ranks in the bottom quarter for premium expense. Continue reading>>>

This week a subcommittee was held on HSB223, mandating coverage for audiological devices for children.  The proposal is just one of many health care mandates that have been introduced and discussed this session.  As with any health care mandate, it only affects a small percentage of insured Iowans, Continue reading>>>

1. Render aid if you are able. Determine whether there have been injuries sustained in the accident.  Render aid to others if you feel comfortable doing so. Move your vehicle if you can reduce risk of further injury to yourself or others. If you feel that you may have been injured, seek medical advice as soon as possible.

2. Call police.  Notify the police of the location of the accident and any injuries.  Verify that the responding officer plans to complete an accident report, and obtain a copy of that report and the officer's name and badge as soon as possible after the accident.

3. If the other driver(s) do not want to call the police, obtain pertinent information and call yourself. Continue reading>>>

As you can see from this edition of the ABI eNewsletter, things are very busy here at association.  Being busy is good, but if all that activity doesn't add value for your business, it is pointless.  Thankfully, that's not the case at ABI.

Our goal at ABI and at the ABI Foundation is to add value.  At ABI, it's all about the members and about helping your business succeed.  Especially in these very difficult times, we take that charge very seriously.  That's why I am pleased to tell you that your investment is making ABI as effective as it has ever been.

The association is leading a coalition of organizations that is working with members of the Iowa General Assembly (both Democrats and Republicans, by the way) to protect Iowa's business climate and advance improvements.  Without your assistance, success in this effort is not possible and so, on behalf of ABI Chair Charles Sukup and our other officers, I thank you for your help and leadership.
