On
Monday, both the Senate and House Ways and Means
Committees considered and approved the proud tax
credit legislation introduced late last
week.
The bills were approved on party-line
votes in both committees. SF
2380 was taken up by the full Senate Wednesday
afternoon and passed on party line vote 32-18.
The
bill could be taken up in the House as soon as
Thursday afternoon.
Labor
Bill Update
As reported, HF 2420 which
violates Iowa's Right to Work law by allowing
state unions to take up to 75% of union dues
from the paychecks of non-members, was referred
to the House Ways and Means committee last
week.
This procedural move keeps the issue
alive for the duration of the 2010 legislative
session.
ABI has learned that Governor Chet Culver
is actively seeking support for the measure so
we will stay vigilant to make sure that this
bill doesn't emerge in a secret deal at the
11th hour of session.

IIPAC
Expects to Be Active in 2010
With the number of legislative
retirements, open seats create great
opportunities for pro-business legislators to
run and win election to the Iowa House or
Senate.
ABI's political action committee (Iowa
Industry PAC) will begin its scrutiny of voting
records, surveys and interviews of candidates
immediately following adjournment of the
session.
