ABI's "Phenomenal" Session

ABI members and the media from across the state have used words like "phenomenal" and "amazing" in describing ABI's success in stopping the onslaught of labor bills in the 2010 legislative session.  For the 4th year in a row, ABI has led the fight to stop legislation that undermined Iowa's Right to Work law. Eyes Turn to Governor

Now that the Legislature has adjourned for the year, Governor Chet Culver now has 30 days to act on all bills that were approved in the same form by both the House and Senate.  This year the General Assembly passed approximately 175 bills including 11 budget bills. Continue reading>>>

 Mike Ralston 2010

Every year at this time, a number of things seem to come together to compete for attention at ABI.  Of course there is the 2010 session of the Iowa General Assembly that adjourned last month and ABI is marking a very successful defense of its priorities.

On top of that, recent ABI membership events have received strong feedback.  A series of programs related to workplace wellness, the annual Risk Management Conference, and other events have been marked by strong attendance and positive comments from members.

Additionally, ABI Foundation programs, such as the Second Annual Leading Leaders Conference, the 2009-2010 Leadership Iowa Class, and culmination of the first-ever Leadership Iowa University program have all drawn rave reviews. Continue reading>>>

Ahh, the first signs of spring:  the birds singing, the tulips blooming, and the need to find something in your closet. Spring is a great time to assess and de-junk your closet and make it work for you.

STEP 1:  Take everything out of your closet, even your shoes. Start making piles according to the type of garment or item.

STEP 2:  Move from pile to pile and try everything on, including the items you love and wear regularly. Take a long look in a full-length mirror at each item on your body, and honestly assess:

·         Color - Does it flatter your coloring (e.g. skin, hair, eyes)?

·         Size - Does it accentuate your good features and minimize your less-than-perfect areas?

·         Lifestyle - Is it appropriate and worn for some aspect of your life?

·         Style Personality/Expression - Does the design, fabric and pattern appeal to you? Continue reading>>>

ABI Foundation Partners with IAICE to Create Internship Database

The Iowa Association for Business & Industry Foundation has partnered with the Iowa Association for Internships and Cooperative Education (IAICE) on the creation of an Iowa state-wide directory of employers that offer internships.

This doesn't exist in any format right now and would be a huge accomplishment for our future workforce if this can be done.  But we need your help to make it happen.

* If you are an employer - please take one (1) minute to complete the information to be included in the database

*If you are a college or university that works with employers, please forward this on, asking for the employer's help in completing the information

This is very easy - just click here and answer the questions.  This information will not be shared publicly and is only for the use of IAICE and Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation.

If you have any questions, please contact Wade A. Den Hartog at (515) 235-0569.
