Voting for Primary Election
Begins
Early
voting for the June 8 primary election in Iowa
has begun.
Iowans may vote with absentee ballots in
either the Republican or Democratic primary
elections by requesting an ABSENTEE
BALLOT be sent to your home - CLICK HERE. You can
update your voter registration too. With summer
schedules, extended school days and the ABI
Convention beginning on June 8 this year,

Director to Meet with Northwest Iowa
Industries
Rich Leopold, Director of the Iowa
Department of Natural Resources will be in Sioux
City May 19th and 20th to
meet with business leaders about environmental
issues facing the state. Topics
include, but are not limited to: water use and
allocation, storm water, recycling, wildlife,
etc. ABI members located in the Sioux City area

Environment Committee Continues
Activity
The
ABI Environment Committee continues to be active
holding several conference calls on specific
issues such as air quality, PM2.5, nutrient
standards, and arsenic. The most
recent issue is proposed arsenic TMDL on the
Mississippi River and its watersheds. Continue

ABI
Almost
four years ago, the ABI Board of Directors
charged association staff with developing new,
high-value programming. This
directive was in response to feedback from ABI
members across the state, who wanted more
programs about a variety of issues and provided
in many different venues throughout Iowa. The goal
was to deliver timely, quality programming on
current issues facing our members.
At
the same time this directive was under
review, ABI was experiencing difficulty in
financing quality programs. Much staff
time was dedicated to procuring sponsors for
one-time events that would show no real return
on their investment. Continue

The
impact of the 2010 healthcare reform legislation
on employer health plans depends in part on
whether an employer's health plan is
"grandfathered."
Grandfathering relief allows such plans
to avoid many of the new rules and delays the
