New Legislation in Effect July 1
Yesterday marked the beginning of a new fiscal year for ABI and the state government. July 1 also marked the date that many pieces of legislation that passed during the legislative session came into effect.  Below is a guest contribution from Advisory Council member Hopkins and Huebner regarding a few of the new laws affecting Iowa employers.

HF 712-Creates a Private Cause of Action for Consumer Fraud
The bill states that the action for consumer fraud does not apply to, among other entities and activities, insurance companies subject to Title XIII, attorneys licensed to practice law in this state, or any advertisement that complies with the statutes, rules, and regulations of the federal trade commission. Continue reading>>>

Help Elect Pro-Business Legislators
The summer is here and candidates are participating in Independence Day parades around the state.  Many of those candidates are revving up their campaigns for the 2010 elections.  Unfortunately, not all of those candidates are pro-business.  If ABI is going to get back to advocating for a pro-active business agenda, IIPAC must grow through your support.  Invest $250 or even $100 today. Mike RalstonWith the beginning of July yesterday, ABI marks the beginning of a new year.  The association's program year coincides with its fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.  With that, the ABI Board of Directors also receives a new chair and for only the second time in 107 years, that individual is an attorney in private practice.  Congratulations to ABI Chair Bill Brown, with the BrownWinick Law Firm in Des Moines and thank you to outgoing chair Charles Sukup, President of Sukup Manufacturing in Sheffield.

As we mark the beginning of new year, thanks to all of you, the association is also celebrating some terrific accomplishments.  ABI just completed a fantastic annual convention and enjoyed a strong membership and programming year.  Given the current economy, that is no small feat and again, thank you for making that possible.
