    August Congressional Recess Underway-Iowa's Delegation Home
    Iowa's Congressional Delegation is back home for the August recess.  Several major pieces of federal legislation are being considered and your voice needs to be heard on business issues. While the elected officials are back in the state, they spend several days hosting town hall meetings.  Attending a meeting is a great opportunity for you to voice your opinion on the current climate change and health care legislation pending in Congress.     Mike RalstonABI has started the new fiscal year with a bang.  With one month in the books, finances are performing ahead of budget, association events being held across Iowa are enjoying solid participation, and new programs are off to a very strong start.  And, in the best news of all, ABI member companies seem to be experiencing increased orders and increased sales.
     
    Just like you don't take your customers for granted, be assured that ABI does not take you for granted.  We know that you have an unlimited number of organizations in which your company can invest; we are grateful for the investment that you make in ABI.
     
    So, while some key metrics point to a terrific start to the fiscal year, just as important is what you as an ABI member have to say about our work.  What programs are adding value to your company?  Are meeting and event locations and other arrangements convenient for you and your employees?  Are there other issues you would like to see ABI address?     All of the indoor artwork was created exclusively by Iowans.  Nestled off the main lobby of the property is the Iowa Writers' Library, featuring over 1,000 books by authors associated with the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, available for hotel guests to check out at their leisure.  The handcrafted walnut furniture in the library and lobby was created by the Amana Furniture and Clock Shop, Amana, Iowa.

    The 2009 Young Professionals of Iowa Conference will be held on Friday, September 18th and hosted by the Young Professionals Connection of Des Moines.  This is an opportunity for young professionals from across the state to come together and network, share, and learn from each other, as well as learn from established professionals and speakers. The conference will focus on living, working and playing in Iowa. with breakout sessions that are interactive and engaging.
